Your valuables are safe with us

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Monday 14 November 2016 caused widespread damage in North Canterbury and Wellington.  So, if you are one of our Wellington customers, you may be wondering about the security of our Newlands and Kilbirnie facilities. We are happy to report that they are very secure. We explain in this post.

What an expert says

The President of the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE), Peter Smith, says a building’s height, stiffness and the type of land it is on determines how it is affected by an earthquake. In this earthquake, Mr Smith says that buildings between eight and 15 storeys high have been damaged the most.

Safe & sound

Acting Civil Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee has warned landlords to share information about their buildings or face the consequences. This, of course, goes without saying.

Despite the earthquake, there is no damage to any of our facilities. However, we still hired a structural engineer to be sure. After a thorough inspection, our two Wellington facilities have been confirmed structurally sound.

The importance of good buildings

The recent earthquake is a reminder of the importance of choosing a storage facility that is structurally sound. Our facilities are modern and purpose built. That is important for the safety of our customers and staff and also for the protection of the things you store with us.

We recommend all customers insure their belongings.
